How we work
Six steps to a lawn that lasts.
A great lawn isn't rolled out in an afternoon and forgotten. It's built from the ground up, step by step. Here's exactly what you're paying for when we lay your turf — and why it's still green three summers on.

01
Site assessment & honest quote
We come and look at the garden properly — measuring the area, checking access and the state of the existing ground, and spotting any drainage, shade or level issues before they become surprises. Then you get a clear, competitive quote, with the ground preparation included rather than bolted on later.
02
Old lawn & surface removal
We strip out the old, tired or damaged lawn and clear the surface completely — turf, weeds, roots, rubble and debris left behind by builders or years of neglect. Laying fresh turf over the old surface is exactly why so many lawns fail, so we always start with a clean slate.
03
Full ground preparation
The step that decides everything. We cultivate and break up the ground, relieve compaction, level and grade the site so it falls the right way, and remove every stone and root that could interrupt the turf. This is the work customers most often single out in their reviews.
04
Topsoil base application
We lay and rake a quality topsoil base — a friable loam-and-compost blend that holds moisture and nutrients while draining freely — giving the new turf somewhere to root fast. On heavy clay or light sandy soil we adjust the base so the lawn thrives whatever the garden started as.
05
Expert turf installation
We lay premium, freshly-cut UK-grown turf with tight, staggered joints and neatly rolled edges, so it knits together into a single, seamless lawn with no visible seams or gaps. It's laid the day it needs to be laid, then firmed in and watered so it settles into full contact with the soil beneath.
06
Aftercare guidance
Before we leave, we talk you through exactly how to look after your new lawn — the watering schedule for the first fortnight, when and how to make the first cut, and what to avoid while it roots. James is known for going back to carry out that all-important first cut himself.
The one that matters most
Anyone can roll out turf. The preparation is the job.
Four of our six steps happen before a single roll of turf goes down. That's deliberate — it's the removal, cultivation, levelling and topsoil work that decides whether a lawn thrives or fails. It's also the part cheaper jobs skip, and the part our reviews thank us for again and again.
What actually happens
You're never left wondering.
Before the day
A clear, competitive quote and a confirmed date, so you know exactly what's happening, what it costs and when we'll arrive.
On the day
It's James and Lee on the tools — the same team that quoted your job, taking pride in the work from first cut to last roll.
After the day
Straightforward aftercare guidance, and the offer to come back for the first cut. A lawn is only as good as its first six weeks.
