A roll of freshly-cut, UK-grown turf

Our turf & topsoil

The lawn is only as good as what it's made of.

We source our turf fresh from trusted UK growers and lay it within a day or two of it being cut, so it arrives green, moist and ready to root. Which grade is right for you depends on how the lawn will be used and the finish you're after — so here's exactly what we work with, and how we'll help you choose.

Three grades of turf

Matched to your garden, your use and your budget.

Economy grade

Best value

Hard-wearing family lawns

A tough, hard-wearing rye-based turf built to take the wear of kids, dogs and everyday family life. It greens up fast, recovers well and keeps its colour without fuss — the sensible choice for a busy back garden that needs to look good and cope with real use.

  • Hard-wearing and quick to establish
  • Great value for larger areas
  • Ideal for family gardens and play space

Mid-range grade

Most popular

The all-rounder

A balanced blend that lands between durability and a finer finish — a denser, neater sward that still stands up to normal use. For most gardens this is the sweet spot: a lawn that looks genuinely smart without needing bowling-green levels of care.

  • Fine enough to look smart, tough enough to use
  • Good density and even colour
  • The choice for most front and back gardens

Premium grade

Show-lawn finish

Ornamental & fine

A fine-leaved, dense ornamental turf for that immaculate, striped show-lawn look. It rewards a little more care with a beautifully even, luxurious finish — the turf to choose when the lawn is the centrepiece of the garden rather than a play surface.

  • Fine-leaved for a luxurious, even finish
  • Takes crisp mowing stripes beautifully
  • Best for feature lawns and formal gardens

Specialist varieties

More than plain green grass.

Wildflower turf

A ready-grown mat of native wildflowers and fine grasses that establishes into a low-maintenance meadow. Less mowing, more colour, and a haven for bees, butterflies and other pollinators — a beautiful alternative for gardens that want to give something back to nature.

Clover-blend turf

Grass blended with micro-clover that stays green through drought, needs far less feeding (clover fixes its own nitrogen), and flowers gently for the bees. A tougher, more sustainable, lower-input lawn that still looks and feels like a lawn underfoot.

Preparing a quality topsoil base for new turf

The base beneath

A quality topsoil base, not just turf on subsoil.

Turf roots into what's beneath it, so the topsoil matters as much as the turf itself. We prepare a friable, screened topsoil base — a loam-and-compost blend that holds moisture and nutrients while still draining freely — so young roots find somewhere to grow into rather than hitting compacted subsoil or buried rubble.

On heavy Surrey clay we break up and improve the ground before laying the base; on light, sandy soil we work in organic matter to hold water. Either way, the aim is the same: a lawn that establishes fast and stays healthy for years, not one that struggles from the day it's laid.

Why UK-grown

Freshly cut beats long-haul, every time.

Turf is a living thing. The longer it spends rolled up on a lorry or sitting in a yard, the more it heats, yellows and stresses before it ever reaches your garden. By working with trusted UK growers and laying turf within a day or two of it being cut, we give it the best possible start — green, moist and ready to root the moment it goes down.
